Celebrating 8 Years Old Friendship

One of my besties named Sari, she lives thousands miles away from island where I live. Around 1 hour and 45 minutes if it is converted into flight time. I met her for the first time in Bandung, thanks to Australia Youth Exchange Program that made this happen.  I knew she would be my best friend after came across her well-crafted writing. She can’t stop proofread any sentences she found, exactly like a grammar police. She is super witty, hilarious and sharp. These traits beautifully paint my serious life. Every time we met, we are not good at telling something on the surface, we dive deep, touch the ocean floor and make it into the Earth core. We share our books, our family and our friends, those things that we both treasure.

Now our friendship is about 8 years old, a few months ago she visited me to celebrate that special age. We celebrated it 7 days and night in row by traveling around Lombok. We hiked 1,900 m asl hill like a pro climber, we tried street food and secondhand clothes like a hippie, we walked along the old town of Ampenan and dined in five stars resort like a posh. Hand in hand we have tasted bittersweet of trips in different part of the world.  And I would like you to know little bit about her, in this little screen through this interview.  Happy reading!

What’s the biggest surprise you’ve had? Life in general? LOL

Heels or flats/sneakers? Oxford and ankle boots made of artificial leather

Who do you want to write your obituary? My cat

Style icon? Some random girls on Instagram and any 80’s or 90’s movie stars

What are three things you can’t live without? Book, Music, Humour

What’s one ingredient you put in everything? Can I do 3? Salt, Garlic, and cabe rawit

What 3 people living or dead would you like to make dinner for? Pasta for Haruki Murakami

soup (with a little bit of shroom) for Amy Winehouse, Frida Kahlo, she doesn’t need dinner though, cigarettes and coffee would do.

What’s your biggest fear in life? To feel the long pain before dead

Window or aisle seat? Aisle, not to pee, but to run fast when accident happens

What’s your current TV obsession? Can I do 2? Atlanta and Insecure

Favorite app? Spotify, although their catalogue is not comprehensive

Secret talent? Writing? Hahaha

Most adventurous thing you’ve done in your life? I think went on paragliding. Anything could go wrong, but I did it anyway

How would you define yourself in three words? Observant, Weird (like everybody else), Particular

Favorite piece of clothing you own? All of my oversized outers (jacket, cardigan, blazer, coat)

Superpower you would want? To be invisible

What’s inspiring you in life right now? My paycheck, I can do heaps of things with it LOL

Best piece of advice you’ve received? Jangan dipikirin (Because I overthink everything)

Best advice you’d give your teenage self? Don’t study natural science

What would you like to be remembered for? A writer of at least 1 book

How do you define beauty? Being confident and liberated in your own skin

What do you love most about your body? My original eyebrows

Favorite place to view art? Music festival/ concert where people get to express their freedom

Blow-dry or air-dry? Air-dry but I do blow-dry for work, no time for air-dry

Coffee or tea? Coffee. But I need to change to tea anytime soon

What’s the weirdest word in the English language? Fish. Why can’t we say fishes? Why is it uncountable when we can say dogs/ cats as countable and hair and beard, why can’t we say hairs but we can say beards? Aren’t they on similar degree? Weird

Dark chocolate or milk chocolate? Not a chocolate fan, but might go with chocolate milk

Stairs or elevator? Hahah you got me! Elevator! No second-guessing about it. haha

Summer or winter? Summer/ Spring/ Fall. Hate cold, hate winter. You geteclecticised when in contact with anything made of steel with your winter coat. I hate that feeling.

You are stuck on an island, you can pick one food to eat forever without getting tired of it, what would you eat? Spaghetti aglio olio

A desert you don’t like? Any drinks made of banana, like why?

A skill you’re working on mastering? Cooking vegetarian/ vegan meals J

Best thing to happen to you today? Knowing that life is going in a mundane rotation, but once in a while you get to hang out with your best friends or watch your favorite musicians performing near you.

Worst thing to happen to you today? To trip and fall in front of public, which I did in the past, not fun

Best compliment you’ve ever received? That I have good taste in music and books and movies lol

Favorite smell? Sandalwood and food smell haha

If you made a documentary, what would it be about? The life of regular people; housewives, young workers who just moved from their hometown to big cities struggling urbanistic lifestyle, grandparents, construction workers, high school girls, unsuccessful artists/ musicians, KRL train operator, maids and baby sitters, should I go on?
