Skeper Waterfall

Image
I was in cold and wet but my legs couldn’t stop walking until I stood before a superb extraordinary waterfall. The challenging trek, the heavy rain and the misty forest were fully worth to pass to reach this divine beauty. The water that fell creates abstract titanium white moving waters that stoned the little pool under echoing sounds of its beauty. Million drops were falling, flying and vanished in the air. Skeper was super high water fall. It is about 80 meters. This height allowed me to see the long motion of water when it falls. I was speechless and in tears. It reminded me of Rivendell—place where elves come from in the Lord of The Rings. I always thought that kind of places are imagery. Skeper Waterfall successfully told me the truth.  My travel mate looked happy but didn’t show much thrill as I did. “This is my second time” she answered me after telling her my opinion. Then she took out her little stove, pan, a plastic cup and two sachets of coffee from his bac...

Gili Bembeq or Gili Kambing

Image
From Mataram it took me 2 hour and half driving to reach Tanjung Luar. Tanjung Luar was busy and hectic. It smells so fishy. As I walked along the market to the harbor I saw squid, octopus and various types of fish. If you come early in the morning you will likely find sharks. By the beach I was trying to find any public boat that can take me to Gili Bembeq.   My searching was empty. I had to get fisherman boat. It was quiet easy to get it. I think it was because I came in the morning. However, I was waiting about 20 minutes for the fisherman. He was lifting some buckets of fish to the fish traditional market around the jetty. He asked me to be patient. I nodded my head and smiled at him to welcome his suggestion. He came back with happy smile. All his fish are already sold. He prepared the boat and put some empty buckets under the small wooden flat floor where passenger usually sits on. I get on and have my seat on the edge of the boat. The fisherman headed the boat ...

Gili Petelu

Image
It is always such a stunning and wonderful feeling I feel when I find myself stands in an empty island. I know I can hear the silence that always tells me where the beautiful voice of nature comes from. So does when I walked in bare feet on Gili Petelu. Gili petelu is hills that actually broken into two parts and looked like three parts from afar. On the top, one wooden gazebo stood next to some trees. I was impatient to be there. I went up eagerly, was wet and starved after snorkeling. As I reach the top I opened up my lunch that was wrapped nicely in banana leaves. Gili Petelu is mostly used as perfect lunch area after snorkeling. The beach in front of it is known as favorite spot for snorkeling.   Gili Petelu can be reached from Tanjung Luar or Pink Beach. From Pink Beach it is only take 5 minutes by boat, meanwhile from Tanjung Luar it takes around 25 minutes. The two following routes to reach this island are Mataram-Kediri-Praya-Jerowaru-Pemongkong-Pink Beach and Ma...

Tebing Beach

Image
Photo by Iyan Eka Putra Most people prefer to go to white sandy beaches instead of going to the black one. In Lombok there is one of black beaches that now become one of favorite places especially for local tourists. This beach is called Tebing which literally means cliff. This cliff is part of Lombok Geopark area. Tebing beach area is also known as phyroclastic flow deposit.  Tebing beach stretch around 200 meters away. This beach cannot be seen during high tide. However you can go up on the cliff and enjoy the landscape. When the tide is getting lower, you can walk on it. The water around the beach was not clear. It looked like chocolate milk that was created from the fallen sand from the cliff and the water.  Around this beach I found only one warung—small shop under a tent. It sold some drinks and snacks. After walking around under the midday heat I bought water and sat for awhile, sipped my drink and wiped my sweat while staring at the clear hor...

Walking to Gili Nusa

Image
It was Thursday May 14, 2015. I rode my bike to the south steadily. The sky was clear and blue. I took route Mataram-Gerung-Penujaq-Mekarsari-Are Goling. It took me about one and half hour since I stopped in some places to take pictures. My favorite road that I passed was before I entered and exited from Desa Mekarsari. I stopped by in one of the hill by the road. I climbed it to get the whole landscape. From this spot I could see the ocean and a green bulge on it. In another stop I took some picture of the verdant hills that divided by the zigzag road. It was midday when I reached Are Goling Beach. I parked my bike in the parking lot and paid IDR 5.000. I was so lucky. It was low tide. The wave was about 500 meters away from the beach. Some water still flowed. They made some streams that look like small rivers. I crossed them eagerly. Around me, a lot of villagers were fishing and collecting shells. Some villagers even only used hook to get fish. I snapped some picture...
