Dear All Solo Backpacker in the World
Have you ever heard about my island? It is called “Lombok”.
Some people said it is “the sister of Bali” or “Yesterday Bali”. It takes 20 minutes by aero plane or 4 hours
by Public Ferry from Bali. If you choose Lombok as a destination place to be
explored, I can be your tour buddy and drive you with my motorbike to enjoy its
beauty. Here are some places that I might show you.
Museum of West Nusa Tenggara is
the only museum in Lombok Island. It is located in the heart of Mataram. This museum not only shows you Lombok and
Sumbawa heritages but also some ancient Chinese staff. The collections of
ancient items reach more than 7.000.
Before travel around Lombok, it would be good to know the history,
culture, heritages and natural resources by visiting this museum.
2. Meru Temple
Built in 1720 by one of the
Balinese King—Anak Agung Made Karang Asem—and was aimed to unite small kingdoms
around Lombok, now this place is used as worshipping center and tourism
object. The most interesting part of
this historical building is its meru. Meru is a shrine wooden tower that
symbolize the gaieties. There are three meru in this temple. Each meru is the
represent of the trinity—Siva, Brahma and Visnu.
3. Narmada Park
Narmada is located about 12 km
from Mataram. It is one of Balinese heritages that they built when they
colonized Lombok. This park was made as the King was getting older and weak. He
couldn’t go praying to month Rinjani. Therefore, he get this park designed like Month Rinjani.
No wonder it is known as miniature of Rinjani.
4. Gunung Pengsong
This small hill is inhabited by
hundreds of monkeys. On the top of this hill also stands an oldest temple in
Lombok –Pangsung Temple—that is built on 15th century. This place is
very good for soft trekking. It takes about 20 minutes to reach Pangsung Temple
. From the temple you can see the Lombok
view and Bali strait.
5. Batu Bolong Temple
Batu Bolong temple is a front
beach temple. Batu Bolong is derived from Sasak
language. Batu means Stone and Bolong means a hole. In the old days,
this temple was used as a place to sacrifice a virgin for rain. It takes 5
minutes drive from Senggigi to reach
this temple.
6. Kuta Beach
Kuta is a Indian ocean front
beach. this beach is regarded as a very special beach because of the white sand
that exactly looks like a pepper. Besides, it is also surrounded by some hills
which are very easy to reach. The view of Kuta looks more perfect from the
hill. Kuta is the nearest beach that can be reached from Lombok International
Airport. It takes about 30 minutes from the airport.
7. Tanjung An
Tanjung An is white sandy beach
that is located about 2 km from Kuta. The most interesting part of this place
is Batu Payung—Umbrella Stone. This
umbrella shaped stone is hiding behind the eastern hill. It can be reached on
foot in the low tide or by doing soft trekking through the hill. In high tide,
you can go there by boat.
8. Gili Trawangan
Gili Trawangan lies on the
northern part of Lombok, is the biggest one among the three gilies and is very
suitable for a party person. Clubs, pubs and restaurant along the beach are
lining up create a beautiful few lighting at night. Besides well known as a
party island, it is also very good for surfing, snorkeling, diving and
trekking. If you want to go around the island you can rent a bike or take
Cidomo—Lombok traditional transportation that is pulled by horse. To reach this
island you can catch public boat from Bangsal harbor.
9. Gili Meno
Among the three gilies, Meno is the
smallest and the less crowded. It lies
between Gili Trawangan and Gili Air. Mostly the water activities that you can
do are almost the same. This island is slightly different from those two gilies
because it has salty lake and bird park. The public boat from Bangsal to this
Gilies are only twice a day, at 9 a.m and 3 p.m.
10. Gili Air
Gili island is the medium one,
not crowded and not that quiet. It is the closest Gili from themain island.
This gili offers almost the same thing like Gili Trawangan does. However, many
people say that this is the best spot for diving compares with the others. Well,
that’s would be better if you check it by yourself.
11.Benang Setokel and Benang Kelambu WaterFall
32 km to the east from Mataram you can find two waterfalls
that islocated near to each other. The first water fall needs about 15 minute
walk to be reached. Meanwhile the second one takes longer around 30
minutes. The first trek is easier but to
find the second water fall is quite challenging for the beginner trekker. These water falls are located in Aik Berik
village, Batu Kuliang, central Lombok.
12. Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Water Fall
Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep are the most majestic water fall
in Lombok. It is located in the southern part of Lombok and takes about 3 hours
drive from Mataram. The forest where the
water falls hosted is a part of Rinjani National Park. The path to the first
water fall is easy and comfortably to walk on. Meanwhile the second track is
more challenging since you need to cross a shallow stoned river.
