Tanjung Luar--Gate to the Southeast Heaven

About an hour and half from Mataram to the south east, you can find a jetty which is famously known as the center of fish trading in South Lombok. This place is called Tanjung Luar . As you see this place, you will be welcomed by the fish sellers who are sitting disarray and calling you out to buy their fish. On the shore, you will be amazed by some strong females who lift a big bucket of fish on their head. Everyday, this small harbor is filled by fishermen boats that mostly from Maringkik island, from Bali and from some other tiny islands which carry piles of fish. This fish then distribute to some areas around Lombok. That’s why most people come here to find fresh fish with quite cheap price.

Not many people knows that this place could be used as the best gate to connect Lombok-the main island with more than 4 tiny islands around—Maringkik Island, Gili Bumbung, Gili Kambing, Gili Beleq—and with some woderful beaches such as Pink Beach, Tanjung Bloam, Tanjung Ringgit and etc. There is no public boat available. However, you can ask many fishermen to take you there. The movement from Tanjung Luar to other gilis is almost every day especially in the morning between 6 a.m-1p.m.

Tanjung Luar is located in East Lombok. It belongs to Sub-district of Keruak. To get there you need to follow route from Mataram-Cakra-Sweta-Kediri-Praya-Ganti-Tanjung Luar. Public transportation is limited. Private motorbike or private car is the best choice.
